Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak warns AI may make scams harder to detect

Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, has raised concerns about the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the detection of scams and misinformation. He emphasised that AI could be utilised by malicious individuals or groups, making it more challenging to identify and address such threats. Wozniak said that AI content should be clearly labelled and that the sector required regulation. In March, Wozniak and Tesla CEO Elon Musk signed a letter calling for a pause in the development of the most powerful AI models. Wozniak did not believe that AI would replace human beings but warned that it could make threat actors even more convincing. He believes that responsibility for any content created by AI should rest with those who publish it.

Wozniak advocates for the regulation of big tech firms in order to establish accountability. Despite harbouring doubts about the effectiveness of such regulation, Wozniak asserts the importance of educating individuals to recognise instances of fraud and other forms of malicious online behaviour.
