British Columbia approves ride-hailing companies' operation with stricter rules

02 févr. 2023 Hi-network.com

The British Columbia has authorised Uber and Lyft to operate under stricter rules compared to most North American locations. Drivers must obtain professional licenses to transport passengers. They must pass road, medical, inspections tests and pay associated fees. Ride-hailing must share data with authorities about the dates, price, and location where trips take place. The companies also agreed to charge the trips at a base fare determined by the current rate for taxis. Officials in British Columbia want to avoid the downsides of ride-hailing services observed in other cities, such as a downturn in public ridership and a disproportionate share of Co2 emissions.
