According to IAPP, Minister of Medical Care Bruno Bruins postponed new health care privacy legislation after the Dutch data protection authority, Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, raised concerns the law is too complex and could endanger patient lives. The draft legislation stated that patients would have the choice to decide what medical information to share with individual providers. The data protection authority stated patients might inadvertently refuse permission to share essential information, which could lead to unintended medical consequences, including death.
