In a recently published paper, several German parliamentarians members of the Green Party (including one member of the European Parliament) have expressed support for the use of gene editing technologies and called for a modern approach to their regulation. The paper notes that gene editing could contribute to improving sustainability at the local and global level. It also points to concerns that existing regulations of genetically modified organisms 'no longer correspond to the current state of science'. This position dissents from the overall position of the Greens, which demand strict regulation of new genetic engineering technologies.
