Jun, 13, 2024 Hi-network.com

In this guide, you'll learn how to use Copilot in Microsoft Teams. And to ensure that you have the right credentials, we'll also show you how to get this generative AI feature for your account.

How to Get Copilot for Microsoft Teams

Before you learn how to set up and use Copilot in Teams, it's worth remembering that you can only use the feature if you meet the correct requirements. In the sections below, we'll cover exactly what you need to use Copilot in Microsoft Teams.

A Microsoft Business or Enterprise Subscription

To use Copilot for Microsoft Teams, you'll need two separate subscriptions. First, you'll need a Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard, or Premium account. Unfortunately, it's not enough to have a Microsoft 365 Personal account.

The good news is that you can get a free trial for Microsoft 365 Business Standard if you only want to try Copilot for Teams. After that, pricing for each three subscriptions is as follows:

Microsoft 365 Business Basic  Microsoft 365 Business Standard Microsoft 365 Business Premium
$6 per user, per month  $12.50 per user, per month $22 per user, per month

You can also use Copilot for Teams with some Microsoft Enterprise accounts, but your subscription must also include Teams. So, if you haven't already, you'll have to upgrade.

A Microsoft Copilot Subscription

After signing up for a Microsoft 365 Business account, you'll also need to get Copilot as an add-on. Your IT admin (or you, if you are that person) should see a message that says:

"Copilot for Microsoft 365 is available to order now".

Once you've entered your personal information and payment details, you should then be able to use Copilot in Teams. If you don't see this message, you can buy Copilot on the Microsoft website.

Copilot costs$360 per year. If you aren't already familiar with the software and want to learn more about it before purchasing, check out our guide on what Microsoft Copilot is.

How to Use Copilot in Microsoft Teams After Buying It

You can use Copilot in several ways, such as summarizing your chats. Using the tool is nearly identical regardless of where in Teams you need it, and the steps you should follow are listed below.

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft Teams account.

  2. Go toApps, typeCopilot, and then select and download the tools that you need.

  3. On the left side, you'll see your downloaded apps. Enter your prompt in the text box and hit theEnter key or icon. You should then see a summary of what you're looking for.

  4. To use Copilot elsewhere, select the logo to expand your list of options.

How to Download Extensions for Copilot in Microsoft Teams

You can also download extensions in Teams to use Copilot in more apps. Examples include Trello, Seismic, Jira Cloud, and Dropbox.

  1. In Microsoft Teams, select theAppsheading on the left side.

  2. SelectCopilot extensionsto see what's available.

  3. Look for the Copilot extension(s) you'd like to add in Teams. You can either use the search bar or browse different categories.

When you find one you want, selectAddto install it.

  4. Your extensions will appear in your chat, and you can access them from there. For example, if you use Trello, you can view your assigned cards without needing to go to the app.

You may need to sign in to an app to use its extension.

In addition to using Copilot in Teams, you can use the software in several other Microsoft apps. For example, if you use Copilot in Word, you can create drafts. It's also possible to use Copilot in Excel to interact with different data points. For both, you'll need a Copilot subscription.
