Various African networks and companies commemorated this year's Identity Day by calling for legal identity for all. In Nigeria, mobile network operator Airtel announced a partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to accelerate digital ID in the country. This will involve a campaign to create awareness on digital ID and advocacy for international mainstreaming 16 September as Identity Day. Many other countries such as Ghana and Namibia held virtual celebrations to mark the day. They took the opportunity to highlight the progress made in implementing and evaluating digital ID programmes.
