The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has renewed its commitment to incorporate the objectives of the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs) into its standards programme on the occasion of the 44th ISO COPOLCO Plenary.

People-centric approach, raising consumer awareness, and advocating sustainability parameters in product design and cooperation marked the event. The plenary also focused on giving a voice to vulnerable stakeholders most affected by climate change in its standards and policy work. The officials stated that during this year's edition, consumer empowerment for a sustainable future was at the heart of discussions. It was agreed that a future circular economy depends on embedding sustainability as a core consideration in standardisation and that ISO should guide the way.

The 44th ISO COPOLCO Plenary hosted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) ended in New Delhi on 26 May.
