The2016 Global Encryption and Key Management Trends Study, carried out by the Ponemon Institute and covering organisations in 12 countries (United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Brazil, the Russian Federation, Mexico, India, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates) shows that more and more companies are either already storing sensitive or confidential information in the cloud (56% of the surveyed organisations) or plan to do so in the next one or two years (28%). Forty-four percent of the surveyed entities indicated that they protect such data stored in the cloud using encryption, while 17% mentioned that they make data unreadable using other mechanisms such as tokenization or data masking.
