The US National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has awarded$42 million from the Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund, a project focused on establishing a testing, evaluation, and research center in the Dallas Technology Corridor.

The Wireless Innovation Fund, a$1.5 billion program over the next decade, supports the development of open and interoperable wireless networks. By investing in open networks, the NTIA aims to strengthen the telecommunications supply chain, enhance security, and enable the US and its global partners to lead the next generation of wireless innovation.

The funding will specifically support the Acceleration of Compatibility and Commercialization for Open RAN Deployments (ACCoRD) project which be lead by AT&T and Verizon. Funding will be utilized by various technology suppliers including Microsoft, Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung, and Cisco to drive compatibility and commercialization for open RAN deployments. The ultimate goal of the project is to drive innovation and competition in wireless technologies, strengthen the global supply chain, and lower costs for consumers and network operators.
