The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has recently sent anopen letter to cloud storage providers asking them to comply with consumer law. CMA notes that, based on a review it had conducted into the cloud storage sector, it has found that 'some providers are using contract terms and practices that [...] could breach consumer protection law'. The authority recommends that providers review and revise their consumer contract terms and pay particular attention to a a number of issues such as: pre-contractual information, automatic contract renewal, changing the terms or characteristics of a service, termination/suspension of cloud accounts, transparency, and exclusion or limitation of liability.
