According to the BBC, a Virgin Media database containing the personal information of 900,000 was left unsecured and accessible online for 10 months. Containing names, phone numbers and home addresses, this database was accessed by at least one unknown user. It mostly affected Virgin customers with television and telephone accounts, but also potential customers referred by friends as part of a promotion.
