According to a news report, Walmart Inc has said it is looking into a fake press statement which announced a partnership with Litecoin, leading to a nearly 30% gain in the cryptocurrency. The fake statement issued by the news release distributor GlobeNewswire has been withdrawn with a notice which stated that Walmart had no knowledge of the press release issued by GlobeNewswire. GlobeNewswire has assured that it has improved its authentication steps to prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future and would work with the appropriate authorities to ensure full investigation, including any possible criminal activity associated with the issue.
