Amazon extends moratorium on police use of facial recognition

Le 19 mai 2023 Hi-network.com

Amazon has extended 'until further notice' the moratorium it imposed last year on the use of its facial recognition technology (FRT) by law enforcement agencies (LEAs). The moratorium was introduced in June 2020, in the context of concerns regarding bias, abuses, and negative implications for privacy and other human rights that may arise from the use of FRT. Back then, Amazon said the measure would serve to 'give Congress enough time to implement appropriate rules'. Meanwhile, there have been no new laws on the ethical use of FRT so far.
