Apple wins antitrust case with Epic

10 sept. 2023 Hi-network.com

The US District Judge Yvonne Gonzales Rogers has issued their ruling in the Epic Games Inc. v. Apple Inc. case and a permanent injunction, related to Apple charging a 30% commission for digital goods and services offered on its platforms. Epic also alleged that such behaviour by Apple constituted monopolist behaviour under antitrust laws.

According to the permanent injunction, Apple must allow developers to provide links or other communications that can direct users away from Apple in-app purchasing. As far as monopolistic behaviour is concerned, the judge ruled that Apple was not a monopolist and 'success is not illegal.'

'Given the trial record, the Court cannot ultimately conclude that Apple is a monopolist under either federal or state antitrust laws,' the judge concluded.
