The Australian government has released a National Quantum Strategy that outlines the country's ambition to become a leader in the global quantum industry by 2030. The strategy is centred on five themes, which are creating a thriving research and development ecosystem, securing access to essential quantum infrastructure and materials, building a skilled and growing quantum workforce, ensuring that standards and frameworks support national interests, and building a trusted, ethical, and inclusive quantum ecosystem.

The strategy aims to modernise the Australian economy, improve society, support national interests, and create high-paying jobs for future generations. The document signals areas the government may consider in the future, including investment opportunities, and acknowledges that Australia's quantum ambition will not be realised by working alone. The Australian chief scientist, Dr Cathy Foley, noted that the impact of the quantum revolution would be comparable to the digital revolution, which brought us modern electronics, computers, and communications.
