The Citizenship and Migration Department of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry has begun collecting biometric data for identification cards which are used inside the country, and biometric passports for international travel. Foreigners can also apply for biometric residence permits. A news report by BelTA indicates that by the first day, over 300 citizens applied for ID cards, 270 for biometric passports while 200 foreigners had applied for residence permits. The system was reportedly running well, will all deployment errors having been resolved.
