Biden campaign expresses concern over YouTube's decision on election fraud claims

The re-election campaign of US President Joe Biden expressed strong concern about YouTube's decision to stop monitoring false claims about election fraud in the 2020 race. They criticised the decision as reckless and warned it could lead to violence.

The Biden campaign urged YouTube to reconsider this policy, stating it could contribute to democratic decay. YouTube had announced that it would no longer remove content that spread false claims about the 2020 presidential elections, citing the potential restriction of political speech as a reason.

The Biden campaign emphasised that despite this policy change, the fact remains that Biden won the election fairly, and social media platforms played a role in spreading misinformation during that time. Former President Donald Trump made baseless allegations of widespread fraud in the election, and his supporters attempted to contest the election outcome by storming the US Capitol on 6 January 2021.
