China has adopted a controversial cybersecurity law to counter cyberthreats, such as hacking and terrorism. Yet, the law has received extensive criticism as it would exclude foreign companies from China, due to requirements such as security reviews and data storage on Chinese servers. According to Human Rights Watch, the law would further restrict online freedom. Zhao Zeliang, director of China's Cyberspace Administration claimed that the law is in accordance with international trade rules.
