According to the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele has rejected the Personal Data Protection Law after the Legislative Assembly's Economic Commission passed the bill in April 2021. Bukele indicated the law does not clearly define data protection mechanisms based on jurisdiction while also arguing shortcomings in the ability to form the National Data Protection Authority.
