Ghana's Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has launched a Digitalized National Assay Laboratory that digitally certifies all gold and other precious metals exported from the country. The laboratory will be operated by the National Assayer at the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC). Under the programme,the government will have real time data on all precious metal exports and therefore collect revenue more efficiently.
During the launch, Managing Director of PMMC, Nana Akwasi Awuah, explained that the assay certificates have unique security features that will be difficult to forge. This will eliminate fake gold trade.
