Google established an Advanced Technology External Advisory Councilto 'help advance the responsible development of artificial intelligence (AI)' within the company. The group is intended to complement internal structures which are responsible for ensuring that the company complies with the AI Principles launched in June 2018. Its task will be to 'consider some of Google's most complex challenges that arise under [the] AI Principles, like facial recognition and fairness in machine learning, providing diverse perspectives to inform [the company's] work'. The group, composed of eight members, will serve for 2019 and will meet four times throughout the year. A report is expected to be published at the end of the year, summarising the group's discussions.?
