A recent report published by the GSMA entitled 'Connected Women: The Mobile Gender Gap Report 2020' shows that women in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) now have better access to mobile Internet. According to the study, an estimated 54% of women in LMICs have access to mobile Internet. Nevertheless, a disproportionality in terms of smartphone ownership still persists in LMICs given that women are '20% less likely than men to own one'. The digital gender divide is the most present in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
