According to a report, Huawei and the African Union (AU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to consolidate their collaboration and put in place the necessary arrangements to ensure an effective co-operation on information and communications technology (ICT) matters. The MOU seeks to strengthen their partnership in the following areas: broadband, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, 5G and artificial intelligence (AI). Thomas Kwesi Quartey, the Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission and Philippe Wang, Huawei's Vice-President for the Northern African region signed the MOU for the AU and Huawei respectively.
The three year MOU offers different AU departments the opportunity to engage with Huawei in ICT project management and delivery, and supports African continental ICT development, including cybersecurity, e-health, e-education, and other related applications.
