ICANN delegates .bangla to Bangladesh

ICANN has decided to delegate the .????? (.bangla) domain to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology of Bangladesh. According to the Minister, Tarana Halim, it comes as a recognition of Bangladesh's sacrifice to preserve multilingualism and the bangla language as a mother tongue. "The nation's emotion and sentiment are mingled with this language", wrote the Halim in a letter to the ICANN Board. Sierra Leone was also competing for the same domain. Bangladesh had been assing the .bd, but the use of the domain was never widespread. The Minister announced plans to start exploring .bangla immediately.
