Indonesia works on ethical AI guidelines to protect personal data

31 août 2023 Hi-network.com

The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics is in the process of drafting ethical guidelines for the use of AI to protect personal data and privacy, reports ANTARA News, the official news agency.

This initiative is in response to the growing use of AI, which heavily relies on patterns derived from publicly accessible data that require strict compliance with existing regulations. This includes technologies such as scraping and crawling, which play a significant role in data collection for AI training, said the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria.

The state agency cited the Deputy Minister, who underscored the importance of imposing restrictions on data usage that would uphold copyrights and personal data privacy. The Ministry plans to oversee data processing and the utilisation of personal data through supplementary regulations derived from the Personal Data Protection Law (PDP Law). This approach is geared toward guaranteeing that automated and extensive data collection practices, which have the potential to infringe upon personal data protection conditions, are handled properly.
