According to a news report, parts of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ranchi and West Bengal in India experienced an internet shutdown on 10 June 2022. This followed escalations in protests against BJP politician Nupur Sharma on his remarks on the Prophet Muhammad. The suspension of internet services including internet voice calling, specifically, in West Bengal was implemented by the Home Ministry under Section 5(2) of the Indian Telegraph Act 1885 and Subrules 2(1) and 2 (A) of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services Rules (Amendment) 2020.
