Italy earthquake rescuers ask locals to unlock their wi-fi

Italian Red Cross asked locals to unlock their Wi-Fi networks after the earthquake in central Italy. Access to the Internet may save lives in areas affected by natural disasters and in other cases when the mobile phone network could be down or weakened. Smartphones allow people to call for help, and rescuers to coordinate their actions. Although the call for open networks in similar situations has been noted in recent years, this is the first time such a request has been made by rescue teams themselves. Despite security concerns the IT experts admitted that rescue needs outweigh hacking risks, reports BBC.
