New law on data protection in Turkey

Few days after hackers published a massive database containing the personal information of approximately 50 million Turkish citizens, a new data protection law came into force in Turkey. Until now, there was no specific law governing the use of personal data. The works on the legislation had been done for over a decade with efforts to align guidelines on the use of private information with European Union rules.
