The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has renewed MTN's operating licence for a further 10 years. MTN paid 72 billion Naira (about US$175 million), comprising 71.6 billion Naira for the telco's spectrum licence and 374.6 million Naira for the renewal of its Universal Access Service (UAS) licence for the 10 year period. The high fees raised concerns among industry analysts who said that the fees were a barrier to market entry.
