Speaking at an event commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child held in Dar es Salaam themed 'Digital generation, my generation' Mwanaidi Ali Khamis, Deputy Minister for Health, Community, Tanzania expressed concern that 32 percent of children who experienced online violence are now victims of depression. She shared that that girls and young women should be empowered to use the Internet to avail various opportunities and it should not be an instrument for demoralising their dignity or discrimination.
She further added that the government is encouraging the use of the Internet by girls and adolescents and reiterated the need of parents, guardians and the community to work together to help protect them online.
