After months of debate, the US senate finally decided to pass legislation that puts a permanent ban on states' and local governments' taxing of Internet access. Apart from the permanent extension of the Internet Tax Freedom Act, the congress approved the ban on taxes of several digital goods and services. The bill does not include calls to better enforce the sales tax on Internet purchases, which might be considered separately later this year.
