TheUK has appointed a multistakeholder Artificial Intelligence (AI) Council 'to help boost growth of AI in the UK, promote its adoption and ethical use in businesses and organisations across the country'. The 21-member council includes experts from business, academia, and data privacy organisations, and their main task is to 'help put in place the right skills, ethics and data so the UK can make the most of AI technologies'. Some of the members are AI for Good founder Kriti Warner, DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman, Ocado CTO Paul Clarke, Mastercard Executive Vice Chair Ann Cairns, The Alan Turing Institute Director Adrian Smith, and Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation Board Member Patricia Hodgson. The council is chaired by Tabitha Goldstaub, co-founder of CognitionX. At the start of its work, the council will focus on issues such as data and ethics, AI adoption, skills, and diversity. The initiative comes to complement other UK activities focused on supporting the development and use of AI, such as the AI Sector Deal.
