The BBC has launched a new investigative journalism team, BBC Verify. The team will be responsible for verifying video, fact-checking, analysing data and countering disinformation. Made up of around 60 journalists, BBC Verify will be a highly specialised operation with a range of forensic investigative and open source intelligence (Osint) skills and will contribute to broadcast and online reporting. Its first investigation, which used satellite imagery to identify the locations of Russian fortifications in Ukraine, was published on 22 May to coincide with the unveiling of the new team.

BBC Verify will contribute to online, radio and TV news, including the news channel and our lives and breaking streaming operations, both in the UK and internationally, according to Deborah Turness, the corporation's director of news.
