According to a news report, President of Chad Idris Deby has announced the restoration of access to social media platforms including WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. The declaration brought an end to the blackout that lasted 16 months, activists described the blackout to be in violation of human rights and the development of the Internet ecosystem in the country. Deby said access to social media platforms were blocked for security reasons. According to the report activists, believe the decision to restore access is a result of legal actions and pressure on the government by the international community.
