Washington State lawmakers on Monday passed a bill to protect the privacy of health information collected by consumer-facing apps and websites that are not covered by federal regulations.
With many states enacting abortion bans and attempting to restrict women from obtaining abortions elsewhere, the legislation is particularly urgent. The new law would prohibit sharing and collecting health information in Washington State without consent, require prior authorisation for companies to sell sensitive health information to third parties, and guarantee citizens the right to revoke consent and request that their health information be deleted.
