According to Reuters, Facebook has won preliminary approval from a US federal court for settlement of a lawsuit in which Illinois users accused the company of violating the state's Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). In July, Facebook had raised its settlement offer by US$100 million, to US$650 million. The revised settlement agreement resolved the court's concerns, leading to the preliminary approval of the class action settlement. A final approval hearing is set for 7 January 2021.
