Internet restored in Uganda after President Yoweri Museveni's electoral victory

According to a news report, internet connectivity is back to normal levels in Uganda after the victory of the incumbent president in the elections held on 14 January 2020. This development follows a five-day internet blackout in the country during last week's elections that led to the re-election of President Yoweri Museveni, who will now be serving a sixth term. The government has justified the internet shutdown by saying that social media is a threat to organising free and fair elections because it promotes misinformation and fake news. However, several activists have said that the shutdown was deliberate to keep the world in the dark regarding the happenings in Uganda, which included opposition intimidation and an allegedly rigged election.
