Iran's information minister says country's Internet was shut down to keep the nation safe

According to anews report, Iran's information and communication minister has justified the government's decision to suspend Internet services in the country in the face of the widespread fuel price protests as a means to keep the nation safe.

According to the report, the Minister, Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi told the Islamic Consultative Assembly News Agency, that "the internet has not been disrupted, but service providers were instructed to cut it off by the National Security Council."

Mr. Jahromi was however quick to add that the government acknowledges that people are upset about the outage and is embarking on the necessary follow-ups to ensure that businesses and individuals are able to re-connect to the Internet.
