In collaboration with the Kacific Broadband Satellites Group (Kacific), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is fostering a resilient communications network that can sustain disasters and improve connectivity to uphold socio-economic development in Vanuatu. The collaboration particularly focuses on providing connectivity to remote and outer islands where existing telecommunications networks were recently destroyed in the wake of the category-5 cyclone Harold, which cut a deadly path through the north of the country in early April. 'This initiative will strengthen the disaster resilience of Vanuatu. By building closer collaboration, partnerships, and integrating innovative digital technologies in disaster risk reduction and management, we can go much further in terms of mitigating against disasters and saving lives,' said ITU Director of Telecommunication Development Bureau Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
