Facebook restored the sharing and viewing of news links in Australia after being granted more time to negotiate with publishers as would be required by the proposed News Media Bargaining Code. The Australian government granted a few concessions in the form of amendments to the code. First, Facebook will have more time to cut deals with publishers and will not be immediately forced into making payments. Second, the amendments to the code suggest that if digital platforms significantly contributed to the news industry they could avoid the code entirely.
